As you will probably be aware the WTA, PASC and UKH submitted a petition to the Welsh Parliament Petitions Committee (No:P-06-1313) to request that the Welsh Government 'Allows exemptions to the 182-day occupancy rule to reduce harm to real Welsh self-catering businesses'.
The Petitions Committee briefly discussed our petition at a hearing today (Monday, 9th January 2023) and although Plaid Cymru's Luke Fletcher attempted to close it down, siting the Welsh Government's current consultation, the Committee decided to keep the petition live. (Although we are not sure they understood the object of our petition and the difference between that and the objective of the Welsh Government consultation). Whilst not fantastic news this does keep the issue live, with over 1700 signatories and it will be reconsider after the Welsh Government produces its report on the Draft council tax (exceptions to higher amounts) (Wales) (amendment) Regulations 2023 – (Closed 22/12/2022) The full recording can be found here: Agenda for Petitions Committee on Monday, 9 January 2023, 14.00 (senedd.wales) 11 minutes and 35 seconds in if you wish to skip the full session.Time: 11:35 minutes in when our case is heard. Suzy Davies, WTA Chairs input was also duly noted by the Committee.
