The Welsh Government held a Foundational Economy event at City Hall, Cardiff last Friday (15 February 2019 - Ferrier Hall, Cardiff City Hall, Cathays Park, Cardiff).
Andrew Campbell, WTA Chair 'It was interesting to learn more about theoretical perspectives behind their strategy and about Welsh Government aspirations for the future. Following this the WTA trusts that future enabling plans will include meaningful action points relating to business rates, tax and national insurance reform, together with innovative proposals to tackle labour and skill shortages'.
'I was very grateful for the invite, however, it was disappointing that tourism received scant coverage throughout the deliberations. As a sector which generates over £6 billion spend within the visitor economy (representing 13% GDP), providing jobs for 125,000 people, it deserves to feature more prominently within mainstream economic conversations. In the time ahead, greater priority must be afforded to an industry which makes such a valuable contribution to the socio - economic wellbeing of the nation'.
Please be assured that the Alliance will continue to champion the cause to change perceptions about tourism, in the hope that that its value and importance will be fully recognised and understood.
