The WTA and our members are currently responding to the Welsh Government latest Consultation which will inevitably have far reaching consequences for accommodation businesses across Wales as well as other sectors. Whilst we are not in agreement with a full on registration scheme and realise that not all members agree, the WTA believes that a well-run ‘registration scheme’ could be the answer to improving standards and 'levelling the playing field'. The WTA generally supports the policy aim of establishing a level playing field for all kinds of visitor accommodation, but this should only be done with a view to ensuring visitors, staff and other third parties can be confident of minimum health, safety and other quality standards, regardless of price point, type, location of that accommodation or length of stay. We will be responding are responding along these lines of argument. The Welsh Government’s Consultation documents can be found here: www.gov.wales/sites/default/files/consultations/2022-12/consultation-document-statutory-licensing-scheme-for-all-visitor-accommodation-providers-in-wales.pdf However, the WTA and its member organisations can only go so far, we still need as many responses as possible to go to the Welsh Government to express our concerns. The WTA's draft response can be found by following the link below. Please though fashion your own answers otherwise they will simply be discarded by the Welsh Government's assessors. Evidence of your first-hand opinion towards the introduction of a potential Licensing Scheme for self-catering in Wales are needed. ![]()
