Over 40 MPs and Lords of all parties attended a Wales Tourism Week event in Westminster on Wednesday February 27th.
The Chair of the Westminster WalesTourism All Party Group, Ceredigion’s Welsh Liberal Democrat MP, Mark Williams, hosted ‘Ceredigion Day’ in Parliament, organised in conjunction with Wales Tourism Alliance and the Farmers Union of Wales.

Firstly December figures for 2012 were strong with 2.4m visits, a 12% increase on 2011 resulting in the best December since 2008. Spend also showed increases of 15% month on month.
Looking at the year 2012 the good news is that visitor numbers for the year were 1% up on 2011 despite the disruption caused by the Olympics.
The better news is that spend was up 4% over 2011 – which was 1.15% ahead of inflation and provided sufficient additional revenue to create over 4,000 new jobs for the UK economy.

The UK Government have come under increased pressure today to take steps to improve the way Visit Britain are marketing Wales overseas.
Following questions asked in the Commons earlier this month by Elfyn Llwyd MP, the issue was raised again in the Lords today by Plaid Cymru’s Dafydd Wigley, who told Government Minister Lord Gardiner of Kimble that there is "a widespread feeling among tourism operators in Wales, that Wales is not being marketed abroad effectively by Visit Britain".

Tenby is to be the proposed home of Wales' first Hotel School. The multi-million pound project, which will offer degrees in hospitality, plans to open its doors in the autumn of 2015. The Hotel School will, at the same time as training students, offer first rate service to guests. The School is planned to be housed in one of Tenby's top hotels, the Fourcroft, owned by the Osborne family for the last 66 years.

The Headines….There were 10.1 million domestic overnight trips in Great Britain in October. This represents a fall of 9% from the all-time high October 2011 figure of 11.1 million. The number of bednights is also down by 11%, although positively spend is up by 4%. Wales is set to be the first country in the UK to introduce a mandatory scheme requiring food businesses to openly display their hygiene rating. The Food Hygiene Rating (Wales) Bill was passed by the National Assembly for Wales today (January 22), and is now nearing the end of the legislative process. The next stage is for the Bill to go before Her Majesty the Queen for Royal Assent to become an Act.
