    2012 Bathing Waters Report Wales

    The 2012 Bathing Waters Report summarises the results of the monitoring carried out during the 2012 bathing season (1 May - 30 September) at 88 EC identified bathing waters in Wales. It also includes the results of local authority monitoring at 54 non-EC identified beaches, an initiative established to provide a bigger picture of coastal water quality, and enables local councils to nominate sites for bathing water awards.     Budget Briefing March 2013

    Key points from the Budget March 2013:- From April 2015 the corporation tax rate will fall from 21% to 20% and the personal tax-free threshold will rise to £10,000 in April 2014.  From April 2014, a new Employment Allowance will be introduced to reduce employer national insurance contributions, with the first £2,000 of employer national insurance contributions to be cut.     The appointment of new Board members will take place at the Tourism Society AGM on April 25, Welsh Government offices Victoria Street SW1 at 4.30pm. Only full Members or Fellows who are up to date with their subscription payments can stand for election. The term of office per election is 3 years, and there are usually 4 board meetings per annum.     The Travel and Tourism Competitiveness Report - Reducing Barriers to Economic Growth and Job Creation is now available. The report tells us that the development of the Travel & Tourism sector is all the more important today given its important role in job creation, at a time when many countries are suffering from high unemployment.     A Cluster Approach by WRAP to Reducing Food Waste in Tourism businesses in the Swansea area

    The Welsh Government, through the Waste and Resources Action Programme (WRAP), wishes to pilot a new approach to help SMEs reduce costs and enhance their customers’ experience simply by encouraging the SMEs to further reduce food and packaging waste that is within their control. The project would provide the practical evidence and guidance needed to help other businesses benefit from establishing similar clusters.     Increase in day visitor figures for GB and England

    Visit England has published the end of year results for the Day Visitor Survey which show a large increase in both visitor numbers and expenditure. In the last quarter, the number of day visits in GB increased by 7% year on year rising from 384m to 409m trips. While expenditure increased from £12.9b to £15.4b, an increase of 19%. If we look at the year 2012 to date, the number of visits increased by 11% year on year and the value by 10%. The pattern of day visits to England was equally strong.... Read More
