New MD for Cardiff & Co
CARDIFF & Co has appointed Roger Pride, director of marketing for the Welsh Government, as its interim Managing Director.
Mr Pride will take on the role on secondment from the Welsh Government for an initial 18 months when Cardiff & Co’s current MD, Richard Thomas, leaves at the end of next month.
Cardiff & Co is a public private partnership which was set up to promote the capital city and its region to the world. Its chairman, Adrian Clark, said Mr Pride’s appointment would help the company build on its successes of the past three years.
“Roger Pride is a highly respected and experienced marketing professional,” Mr Clark said.
“His background in tourism and his close links to the Welsh business community through his work with the Welsh Government will be a huge asset for Cardiff & Co.”
Mr Clark added that an early appointment was important to the company so that there could be a hand-over period before Mr Thomas takes up his new appointment at BBC Wales.
Mr Pride said: “As an existing board member, I already understand the company’s aims and I am looking forward to working to promote the capital city of Wales.
“I have been impressed by the achievements of Cardiff & Co over the last few years and I believe the company now has the potential to play an even more important role in the economic success of our capital city.”
Mr Clark added: “Cardiff & Co will be looking to extend its links with businesses, to build on the work it has already done to attract new investment to the city region and to cement the city’s growing reputation as a leisure and business destination. I look forward to welcoming Roger Pride to the team and to working with him to add to the company’s recent achievements.”
Roger Pride was director of marketing at the Wales Tourist Board before being appointed director of marketing for the Welsh Government when the tourism body became part of a government department. His present role includes marketing across the whole of the Welsh Government’s department for business, enterprise, technology and science.
