New president for English Tourism Alliance
Sir David Michels has been unveiled as the president of the English Tourism Alliance.
Sir David has a long and distinguished career in the tourism, hospitality and retail industries. He is currently the deputy chairman of Marks & Spencer and chairman of London & Capital. He is also a board member of Strategic Hotels and Resorts and Jumeirah Hotels and president of the British Hospitality Association.
He recently stood down as deputy chairman of easyJet, before which he was group chief executive of Hilton International and was responsible for launching Ladbrokes as a stand-alone public company.
“I am delighted to join the (English) Tourism Alliance as its president and look forward to working with the Government on how we can maximise the benefits of tourism to the UK economy,” he said.
“The Government has rightly identified tourism as one of the few industries that can quickly provide much-needed growth and employment. Our task will be to ensure that this acknowledgement is translated into policies that make the UK a more competitive tourism destination.”
