Ministerial Tourism Panel Members Announced
Precis of the press release issued by the Welsh Government:
"Members of the Welsh Government's new advisory panel for tourism represent a wealth of experience and expertise that will make a significant contribution to support and help the sector grow and create new jobs in Wales", said Business Minister Edwina Hart.
Mrs Hart said she was delighted at the calibre of the individuals who have agreed to serve on the priority sector panel for economic growth and job creation in Wales.
“Together they represent a wealth of experience and expertise and I am confident it will make a significant contribution to support and help the sector grow and create new jobs.
“I attach great importance to the role of the panel which will provide me with expert knowledge and advice and keep me updated on the views and priorities of industry which in turn will help inform the Welsh Government’s future policy development."
Advisory panels are already working with six other key sectors of the economy that include: Advanced Materials and Manufacturing, Creative Industries, Energy & Environment, ICT and Life Sciences, and new panels were also announced today for Construction and Food and Farming.
The tourism sector panel members are as follows:
• Dan Clayton Jones, Chair of the Heritage Lottery Fund (Chair)
• Mike Morgan Proprietor, Llansantffraed Court Hotel, Abergavenny
• Menna Heulyn, Co-owner of The Harbour Master Hotel, Aberaeron
• Paul Lewin, Managing Director, Ffestiniog Railway Co
• Sir Brooke Boothby, Owner of Fonmon Castle (Conference, event venue) and Fontygary Caravan Park
• Philip Lay, Retail Director, S.A. Brains
• Dr Manon Williams, Director Client Services at CMi (Management Consulting) Private Secretary for Wales at office of HRH The Prince of Wales
• Margaret Llewelyn OBE, Former Managing Director of Dragon Shipping Line
Dan Clayton Jones, Chair of the Tourism panel will attend meetings of the Department for Culture Media and Sport’s Tourism Advisory Council and is the Minister’s representative on the Board of VisitBritain.
Mr Clayton Jones said: “I am delighted that so many people of such experience and knowledge of both the industry and their particular sectors have agreed to join the panel. I think we have a formidable group and look forward to working with the Minister.”
Tourism Panel Membership Details
Chairman Dan Clayton Jones is currently chair of the Heritage Lottery Fund and has extensive experience of business, in both the private and public sector within the UK and overseas having worked for Ford Motor Co, Wales Tourist Board, Rank Hotels and his own property development company. He has extensive knowledge of the cultural product within Wales.
Mike Morgan is proprietor of Llansantffraed Court Hotel, Abergavenny and co-owner of Welsh Rarebits, Great Little Places and Wales in Style representing over 100 independent hotels, guest houses and restaurants throughout Wales.
Menna Heulyn is co-owner of The Harbour Master Hotel, Aberaeron. She has experience of marketing and PR in the public sector (WDA, S4C) and is a role model for women in the tourism private sector having transformed the Harbour Master into one of the best, and best known, hotels in Wales. She is a fluent Welsh speaker.
Paul Lewin is Managing Director, Ffestiniog Railway Co, one of Wales’s most successful and best-known tourism attractions. Recently developed and re-opened the Welsh Highland Railway connecting Porthmadog to Caernarfon.
Sir Brooke Boothby, is owner of Fonmon Castle (Conference, event venue) and Fontygary Caravan Park. An economist by training, he has extensive knowledge of, and experience in, both the heritage and caravan sectors.
Philip Lay, Retail Director, S.A. Brains, has extensive knowledge of the pub and restaurant sector. He chairs the Wales employers panel for People First and represents Wales on the Board of People First (Hospitality Sector Skills Council).
Dr Manon Williams, Director Client Services at CMi (Management Consulting), is Private Secretary for Wales at the office of HRH The Prince of Wales. She has extensive knowledge of the heritage/cultural sector and in-depth knowledge of the perception of Wales in overseas markets. She is a fluent Welsh speaker.
Margaret Llewelyn OBE, is a former Managing Director of Dragon Shipping Line and has extensive knowledge of shipping, ports and the cruise industry. She is a past winner of the Welsh Woman of the Year for Management Achievement and a consultant to the Cruise Wales initiative.
