Wales Tourism Week 2012
From 27 February 2012 to 04 March 2012
Our theme for this year is focused around Attractions and Activities - two things that draw visitors to Wales in their millions each year, be it the huge St David's Centre in Cardiff or St David's in Pembrokeshire, and the activity is eating rather than coasteering.
Examples of events you might stage include inviting your local Assembly Member for a tour of an attraction; followed by tea and cake at a local hotel; take some photos and get a short item in the local press. It does not have to be a big or expensive event - you simply need to get across the business case for tourism.

Developing Membership by Demonstrating Benefits - association development seminar from SEWTF.org.uk
29 February 2012
The purpose of this event is to ensure that all tourism associations and trade groups operating within South East Wales are in the strongest possible position ahead of both the coming financial year and the May local government elections.
We have lined up great speakers who know the industry and excel within their specialism, so this FREE event is a ‘must attend’ for all tourism officers, association chairs and committee members and anyone looking to drive up the status and impact of tourism bioth locally and across the Capital Region.? ?Tourism is now a Priority Sector within the Welsh Government’s business, enterprise, technology and science ministerial portfolio. If we are to really capitalise on this status and the investment it is supposed to release, the private sector must play a strong role within the Destination Management model being advocated for tourism by Visit Wales.? ?The seminar on 29 February is being kindly hosted by The Vale Resort, in partnership with the South East Wales Tourism Forum and Capital Region Tourism. It is an opportunity for tourism associations and trade bodies off all sizes within South East Wales to learn more about developing their associations, growing membership and playing a stronger role with local product development, marketing and sector advocacy. This is an excellent opportunity to share good practice and pick up ideas that really work from other associations and trade groups.
What will be covered?
The seminar programme is being finalised at the moment but currently includes:
9.30am Registration - coffee and networking
10.15am Welcome - SEWTF & CRT Chair, Mandy Davies

1.00pm Lunch and networking
?Who should attend?
• Tourism association chairs and committee members
• Sector trade body chairs and committee members
• Local authority tourism officers?
• Tourism advocates and key stakeholders
• Tourism businesses seeking to influence tourism development and policy? ?We recognise the important role that local government plays in destination management, so we have opened this event to tourism officers as well as the chairs and committee members of any recognised tourism association or sector trade group. This means that the smaller associations will also be able to benefit directly from the event.??
Who are the speakers?
The research section will be delivered by Phil Evans, CEO of Research and Marketing Group, a leading research and marketing strategy company with expertise in tourism. Lobbying will be delivered by Daran Hill, managing director of Positif Politics, one of Wales most dynamic public affairs consultancies.
We are still talking to a number of other speakers, but all have been approached because of their industry experience and expertise in their specific field.
